What we collect, why, and who else sees it
The short version
We collect the information we need to bring fuel to your address and bill you for it. We do not sell it, we do not rent it, and we do not hand it to anyone for marketing. If you would like it deleted, call us and we will delete it.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Phone numbers collected for SMS purposes are not shared with any third party or affiliate, and are not sold, rented or traded under any circumstances.
Who we are
Compass Energy LLC delivers home heating oil and commercial diesel in Connecticut. This policy covers compassenergyct.com and any text messages sent from our business number.

What we collect
When you order heating oil
- Your name, phone number and email address
- The delivery address, town and ZIP code
- The gallons you ordered and the delivery window you chose
- Your tank size and any notes you type in, if you give them
When you request a commercial quote
- Your name, company, phone number and email address
- Roughly how many gallons a month you use and what fuel type
- Where your yard is and whether you already have a tank on site
Automatically
Our server keeps ordinary web logs, which include your IP address and the pages you asked for. We use them to keep the site working and to stop abuse. We do not run advertising trackers, and we do not use third-party analytics.
Payment information
We never see or store your full card number. Card details are handled directly by our payment processor, Stripe, which is PCI compliant. What reaches us is a reference to the payment, the last four digits and the amount.
When you order online your card is authorized, not charged. After we deliver, we charge for the gallons that actually went into your tank, which may be less than you ordered. It is never more.
Text messages
Compass Energy operates a small internal SMS service. Its only user is the business owner, who texts our business number to post the day's fuel price to this website and gets a confirmation back. Message frequency is low, typically zero to a few messages a day, and messages are sent only in reply to a message the recipient just sent.

We do not send marketing texts. We do not add customers to a text list, and ordering fuel on this site does not sign you up for text messages. If we text you about a specific delivery, it is because you gave us your number for that delivery.
Who else sees your information
Only the companies we need to run the business, and only for that purpose:
- Stripe, for card authorization and payment
- Render, the hosting our website runs on
- Google (Gmail), the email that carries your order confirmation
- Twilio, the phone carrier for our text messages
We will also release information if the law requires it. That is the whole list. Nobody buys your information from us, because it is not for sale.
How long we keep it
Orders and quote requests are kept as long as we need them for service history, accounting and tax. Ask us to delete yours and we will, unless we are legally required to hold on to a record of a completed sale.

This site is for people buying fuel. We do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13.

If this policy changes, the new version goes up on this page with a new date at the bottom.
